One folder rule for a second laptop

The failure mode we see most often is kindness mixed with haste: someone installs the journal on a travel laptop “just for this trip” and starts a fresh file. Months later there are two half-ledgers.

Agree on one folder location before the trip. Give the travel machine a short device label and write that label into every entry made on the road. When you return, merge only if your practice requires it — many clients simply keep writing into the same synced folder and never fork.
